The Al-Masry Foundation places great emphasis on preserving the environment, protecting it from pollution and climate change, conserving natural resources, and rationalizing the use of these resources through the Agriculture and Environment Program. The foundation cultivates 300 acres in the Bahariya Oasis area of Giza Governorate with environmentally friendly diverse crops
Three years ago, work began on the silk project by scientifically cultivating more than 20 acres with Indian mulberry trees, known for their abundant leaves, used to feed silkworms for the production of natural silk. The silk is used in industries such as carpets and clothing. The project won in the second cycle of the 2023 National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in the medium-sized projects category, among 14 winning projects from Giza Governorate, preparing for its presentation at the international climate change conference hosted by the UAE. This effort aligns with sustainable development goals to improve quality of life and uphold the rights of future generations.
This project is of great significance due to its various benefits and uses in industries such as date production, carton and paper manufacturing, and the production of ropes and cords. On 150 acres, 5 acres of Medjool palms (300 trees) have been planted. Efforts are ongoing to cultivate an additional 130 acres of Medjool palms.
We started the project by planting several vegetable crops, including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, eggplants, and other crops, using green farming methods, drip irrigation techniques, and solar energy for electricity supply to preserve the environment.
This was done by planting 6.5 acres of mulberry trees, and another half acre as a nursery for the mulberry trees.
